Cranky is one of my favorite words.  It describes so many moods that you can’t explain.  And this morning, I was just feeling let down by the gray skies and raindrops, and I could feel myself turn “cranky.”  And the morning didn’t get any better.  My dog has issues with the rain, and takes forever to “go.”  Then, there were all these earthworms — everywhere! — which made walking up the street like manuevering around a minefield.  What it came down to is that I was annoyed (cranky) at things I couldn’t control.  And, as the morning went on, I found that my mood was lingering, and I wondered what kind of day I’d  have.  And then we turned towards home, and “pop,” I saw the cheery, yellow daffodils in my garden, and I could feel the dark cloud lift.

And then, just a short time later, on my way to work, I stopped at a new gas station that had a Dunkin’ Donuts inside.  But it wasn’t your typical counter-type shop.  It was a “serve-yourself.”  Finally, I had control over something!  I grabbed the plastic cup, wandered the choices of iced coffees available, and then added the milk, the natural sweetener, and then, lo and behold, I saw a machine that allows you to add that little zip of flavor.  My choice?  Caramel.  I could feel the mood lift, so much so, I went and purchased a dozen munchkins for my co-workers.  So what’s the message of this blog?  Well, I don’t want to get all zen-like, but it really can be the simplest things that can bring pleasure and turn a mood around.  And finding out what that is for us can be a very good thing.  And you know I’m hitting that DD on the way home tonight…TTYL, mj
