Welcome to Jeremiah Benedict, recent Mount Saint Mary College grad, who will be our eyes and ears out in the Hudson Valley.  He’ll be blogging about some of the fun family places in our area.  He’s got a degree in Media Studies/Journalism, and says, “I have a passion for writing, and enjoy writing short stories.”  His work has appeared in the Wallkill Valley Times, Mid-Hudson Times, and the Southern Ulster Times.  And since he told us he enjoys the outdoors (along with hunting, fishing and hiking) we knew he’d be the perfect field reporter.  It can be the HV Parent version of “where in the Hudson Valley is Jeremiah?”   This is his first blog.

Mill Street Loft Raises Art Students to Lofty Heights

Mill Street Loft

Seven years ago, Breanna Nussbickle never imagined her artistic designs would be marketed on an International level,  yet today it’s become an integral part of her career.  Breanna, as we speak, is designing new lingerie and under garments for Victoria’s Secret.   Yes, THAT Victoria’s Secret.

After attending the Mill Street Loft Art Institute in Poughkeepsie, and after two years, the doors opened for Breanna. She went on to attend the Fashion Institute of Technology, graduating in 2009, and won runner-up for her lingerie garment design in the INVISTA Lycra competition.

Breanna’s not the only student who attended the Mill Street Loft that would attribute her success to developing her talents at the Art Institute.  There are many stories like hers.

This not-for-profit, Multi-Arts Educational center has helping students just like Breanna since 1981.  They offer educational and culturally enriching programs to a wide range of audiences throughout the Hudson Valley.

(This painting was done by Jessica Intelisano from John Jay High School in for her Senior Project at the Institute.  It is entitled Poseidon and was part of a 12-set collection for her theme: Concentration on Mythical Gods.)

If you‘re a student interested in art, the Mill Street Loft has plenty of extracurricular work for you; so, go on over and check it out, you’ll like what you see.  They offer programs for students, 11-19, and offer advanced courses (which one must be accepted into), and a less competitive course for students who simply just enjoy art.

Mill Street Loft is located at 45 Pershing Avenue, Poughkeepsie, and a second location is on its way, headed for Beacon.
